Why am I on moderation? Why don't my posts go through immediately?
Since we are a public board and controversial board we are sometimes harassed by trolls and spammers. To cut down on this we have all new users go through a moderation process in which the hostesses review each message before it is posted to the boards.
How long will it take before the hostesses approve my post?
Probably not very long. There are four hostesses and usually at least one of us is around to moderate so the post will go through as soon as we get a chance to read it. During the rare times when no hostesses are around you may have to wait a few hours until one of us checks in. On average, we're able to get posts approved in just a few minutes. If your post is objectionable we will not approve it.
How long will I be on moderation?
This depends on you. If you post offensive comments or annoy the other posters we will keep you on moderation until we feel that you can interact with the group without causing problems. If you are a genuine and considerate poster you will be taken off moderation in a week or two. If you are a returning poster and we would know you by another name please email the hostesses so that you can bypass the moderation system.
How can I have a picture/portrait next to my name?
First choose a picture you'd like to use. It should be fairly small and it must be appropriate for all audiences. It must be a gif or jpeg. Go to "Change password or preferences" and scroll down until you see where you can upload your portrait. Then click "Browse" and you should be able to retrieve the picture from your hard drive an upload it to WorldCrossing. Other portrait options are down further. If you'd like to see other members' portraits check the box for that. Most pictures look better without a border, so you may want to leave that box unchecked. When you're finished, go all the way to the bottom to click "OK." For your safety, we don't recommend that you use an actual picture of yourself, but if you are comfortable with it, that's fine too.
What are these "handles" everyone is talking about?
You have the option of putting a second line of information under your name. At Time Inc. they were called "handles", though we used them for funny quotes or sayings. To see other members' handles go to your preferences and check the box next to "Show second line of author information in messages." To add a handle to your name there is a box you can type it in near the top of the prefernces page.
Did I get another email address when I registered?
Yes, when you registered at Worldcrossing they gave you another email address. It's <Your Username>@worldcrossing.com. You don't have to use this address if you don't want to. The email address displayed in your profile (if any.. you can keep it private) is whichever you choose to list. You can also have your WX mail forwarded to another mailbox. These options are available on the Preferences page.
How do I check my email?
To check your WX mail click on the "Your Forums" link and then follow the link that says "Read and Send Email."
Can I create a new topic/thread? How?
At the top and bottom of the boards there is a link that says "Add Discussion". After you give your board a name and a description it will appear under the "Other Interesting Topics" heading. We're a little different from other forums in that instead of a poster starting a thread for an individual question, we treat each thread like its own board, keeping it around for 2000 posts and restarting it if necessary. If your question or comment would be on topic for one of our other boards, please post it there instead of creating a whole new baord for it.
How do I get my board under one of the headings?
Once you've created your board leave a message for the hostesses on the "Questions, Comments, and Requests for Hosts" board to tell us the name of your board and what heading you'd like it to be under. You can also email us if you'd like.

From time to time the sysops at Worldcrossing repair or do maintenance on the boards which is usually what causes this error message. They are in the process of an upgrade as well so we sometimes have a few infrequent problems. There's a more technical answer than that, but for the most part it is a glitch that they are working on. If you're interested in the techie answer feel free to email the webmistress.
I keep getting logged out. What's going on?
It may be the above system glitch or it could be a problem on your end. For fixes to this problem read this post from the Support Forum.
How do I add this forum to "My Forums?"
Click "Subscribe" at the top or boattom of the page. Be careful not to unsubscribe from our forum as it will place you on the "moderated user" list.
Will a board drop off after a period of inactivity? How Long?
Yes, if no one posts to the board for two weeks it will be deleted by the system.
The board I want to post on says there are now more posts allowed. Why?
Our boards have a 2000 post limit. This count includes deleted posts which may be why it seems there are not yet 2000. Once the limit is reached we have to "recycle" (close the old board and make a new one) that board, though we will leave it at the bottom so that everyone can catch up on the discussion.
Is there any way to delete/edit my post?
You can delete your own posts at any time by pressing the Delete button next to your post. You may edit your post within a half an hour. If you need help with this please contact the hostesses
Is this the official Rules board?
No, we're an unoffical support community. Ellen and Sherrie are not involved with hosting and they most likely do not read our boards. We don't have any affiliation with them other than our topic. The Rules used to have an official board at Pathfinder/Time Inc. and many of the users here are refugees of that closed board.
Is this board for women only?
Our board is mostly populated by women, but we do have a few men who frequent our board. We even have a "Guydom Embassy" specifically for the guys in our community so that they have a place of their own to answer questions. We love Rules-y guys who help us understand men better.
I disagree with The Rules. Can I still post here
We understand that not everyone agrees with The Rules. We don't mind if you post on our board, but you must be respectful of us and our decisions. Our purpose as a forum is to give Rules Girls a place for support and we're dedicated to keeping it this way. If you would like to debate the premise of The Rules or offer opposing viewpoints please keep your discussion on the Debate board.
