Review:"13 Hours In A Warehouse" is a supernatural horror film which follows a gang of museum thieves. They are hired for a job by an employer, a job which consists of stealing valuable artifacts for said employer. Their heist is successful, and they, along with a female hostage, hole up inside a warehouse which belongs to the father of two of the crooks. They stay there in wait for their boss to show up the next morning with the cash. However...the warehouse holds some very dark, disturbing, and sadistic secrets.
Two of the crooks, who are brothers...and who's dad owned the warehouse, were under the impression that their father used it to shoot pornos in. But as it turns out, the videos were not porn, but instead sadism torture videos, snuff films if you will. Now, while waiting out the night...the gang of criminals not only have each other to be worried about surviving...after all, there's no honor amongst thieves. But they also have to worry about the female ghosts of three of the snuff films victims seeking bloody revenge against them.
The one thing you have to like about Dav Kaufman's film is the it offers up a unique premise right at the start. That's refreshing to know you're going into a film that's not gonna be a rehash of something you've already seen a whole bunch of times before. The warehouse itself is also a great setting for the film. It's darkened hallways, dingy look, and dark, dank atmosphere really add an element of eerieness to the movie and help to further heighten the creepy factor. The acting isn't too bad as well, particular by the group of actors playing the robbers. There's alot of salty harsh language thrown around between the group which does get annoying at times but due to their personas, works for the most part.
The betrayal factor, which is injected into the film early on also keeps the suspense and mystery going. You never really know just how many of these guys are gonna defect to their own little plan to "do in" their supposed partners in crime. Then there are the ghosts, which show up in the room where the female hostage is being kept. The ghosts are an intriguing and likeable part of the film. Intriguing because they aren't handled in the usual visual fashion for an indie horror movie. They kind of look like they've been forever captured on film or tape, similar to how Samara looked when she stepped out of the television at the end of "The Ring".
One of the more chubby of the female ghosts, of which there are three...even still has a snuff film device lodged in her mouth from when she died. While one of the others still sports the plastic bag on her head which was thrown over it to suffocate her when she was alive. These are some very twisted and fucked up looking ghosts to say the least, but they do show mercy to one individual in particular...and even try to save that individual and guide them out, which is one of the many intriguing things about the ghosts. They aren't the merciless "kill em all let god sort em out" types that are ever present in most horror films.
The likeable thing about the ghosts are that they don't waste their nor the viewers time. Unlike alot of supernatural horror films where the ghosts pop up, scare the shit out of someone, and then disappear when they scream and run away...these ghosts show up, and whoever they approach or encounter...they kill them, period. It's nice to see ghosts in a horror film again who actually do damage. I've really missed that in this day and age of "peek-a-boo" ghosts, who seem to have all the time in the world to kill their victims, and find it perfectly okay to bore the hell out of the viewer with that aspect.
These ghosts take people out, quickly, painfully, and directly. And it does get bloody and gory along the way. There's even one cool death involving a toilet seat which I won't give away here but it's very well done. The film as it nears it's end does eventually break down into every crook for himself mode, and what's left of the group do indeed conform to the "every man for himself" credo.
Which sets up a very intense and exciting finale when the ghosts close in on the crooks, the crooks close in on each other, and the hostage just wants to get the hell out of dodge alive. "13 Hours In A Warehouse" is a really good supernatural indie horror pic, which offers up a refreshing storyline, some cool angry ghosts, and an overall satisfactory level of entertainment value.
Positives:Decent performances, pissed off and violent ghosts, great finale.
Negatives:The dialogue is a tad bit weak and has to rely on alot of profanity to get by sometimes.
Overall:Three out of four stars.
