Abrams Out of "Dark Tower" Adapt

JJ Awhile back, it came out that "Lost" creator JJ Abrams would be involved in bringing a film adaptation of Stephen King's Dark Tower to the big screen. Now comes word today, through USA Today that Abrams has apparently backed off the project. JJ tells USA Today..."You'll be hard-pressed to find a huger fan of The Dark Tower than me, but that's probably the reason that I shouldn't be the one to adapt it. After working six years on Lost, the last thing I want to do is spend the next seven years adapting one of my favorite books of all time. I'm such a massive Stephen King fan that I'm terrified of screwing it up." Abrams does however predict that the adaptation will eventually happen, just not at his hands. "I'd do anything to see those movies written by someone else. My guess is they will get made because they're so incredible. But not by me." Sucks. I thought JJ did an excellent job with "Cloverfield", and I think he would've broguht a certain unique quality to any "DT" feature film. So just who will decide to jump in and get this project done? At this point, it's truly anyone's guess.
