[Are You Scared 2]
Plot:Set in the world of Geocaching, a fast-growing community of adventure-seekers who play hide-and-seek around the globe using GPS devices and clues and coordinates posted on the website. In 2000, with advances in GPS technology, Geocaching began with a simple idea: hide a container out in the woods and note the coordinates with a GPS unit. Anyone can join in the game and search for caches in their area or in a far-flung corner of the world. In the movie, four twenty-somethings, who are in a game of Geocaching, fall for a trap set by a killer who chooses them for their notoriety on websites such as YouTube. The treasure-hunters become the hunted, and thrill-seeking turns to survival as their adventure is broadcast on the web by the killer in a twisted reality show.

Cast:Tony Todd, Adam Busch, Chad Guerrero, Laura Buckles, Kathy Gardiner, Andrea Monier, Tristan Wright, Katherine Rose, Rodrigo Robles.

My Thoughts:What the *bleep*?

Review:I think we have officially hit rock bottom this time. When an indie horror film is made on a shoe-string budget such as "Are You Scared" was, and then it's followed up three years later with a sequel...you'd expect a film of equal or better quality. So what does "Are You Scared 2" give us? A film of FAR lesser quality, FAR, FAR worse quality. But I digress because as we all know, this is really not a direct sequel to "Are You Scared". It's a film that had the title "Are You Scared 2" slapped onto it because Lionsgate wanted to cash in on the apparent dvd success of the first movie. We've all seen this before.

In some cases, there are horror films out there with pornos as sequels, which aren't straight sequels to said films...but instead a cash in attempt by another production company. "Are You Scared 2" is set in the world of geo-caching (yeah, I don't know what the fuck it means either). A group of young people resembling the cast of CBS's 'Amazing Race", race around the world in scavenger-hunts looking for prizes, and adventure along the way. Unfortunately this time, they've gotten themselves into a bit of trouble. You see, their latest hunt has taken them to a wildnerness where a twisted individual resides in secret chambers, watching them...and planning to trap them so he can play a sick hunting game with them.

Think Jigsaw meets "$lashers". Tony Todd plays the madman, who has the whole area rigged up with cameras, and once he's lured these adventure-seekers into his trap, he quickly springs it. Only to later on, allow them a chance to escape if they can evade his hired goons who resemble escaped mental patients who accidentally drove through various stores at a local mall during their during a police chase. The goons are the usual type, a bible-thumping wacko, and a midieval dude with an axe. The costumes are so bad in this movie that they don't even bother dressing up the religious fundamentalist guy. Maybe the actor thought his costume sucked so bad, he refused to wear it.

Or maybe they ran out of money and couldn't get him one. At any rate, he's relegated to dressing like a plumber. The young people include two couples, two hot girls...and two not-so-bright guys. In fact, one guy is so dumb that during their escape from the madman's fortress, he sees his girl tied up on a video screen...and then decides to run back in and try to save her. Big no-no of course, but again these guys are morons so it's not surprising. Then there's guy number two who after shoving one of his attackers off of a cliff, and looking down and seeing nothing...he then decides to turn his back and ask his girlfriend if she's "okay".

This of course ends up getting him killed when the dude shows back up after the fall, but hey, again, these guys...DUNCES. Then there's the sets which look like an abandoned house someone found and decided to shoot a film in. Seriously, if you saw how little money was spent on 'Are You Scared", and how great a job was done with it...the writer and director of this movie should've taken a lesson from that guy. Because the madman's "lair" in this movie looked like a burnt out crack den. The movie tries to get clever at the end with some plot twists involving murder, death, psychpathic tendencies, and the like.

But after you've made your characters such idiots, created the worst villains imaginable (even for a C-horror film), and did I mention the cgi "air blood"?, which comes in a scene where a guy is stabbed in the neck...only to have red mist emerge from his body like one of those ghosts from "Ghosts Of Mars"? This film just kept giving me more and more ammo to totally lambaste it in my review. Tony Todd, well....he did the best he could do in a film like this. I don't exactly know why he took on a part in this travesty at all. Maybe he needed the money, maybe it was scale pay, hell...maybe he lost a bet or owed someone a favor. There's gotta be a good reason because Tony's a smart guy, and he couldn't possibly have read the script for this film and said..."my god, genius!".

I think with some serious cash, this film would've still garned a rating no higher than two stars. But without the proper funds, in-front-of-the-camera talent, and a good script...this movie gets no stars from me. None, zero, doughnut, love, the big "0". "Are You Scared 2" did manage to scare me about a few things though. Scared me about what bad filmmaking looks like, scared me about what bad costumes look like, scared me about terrible screenwriting, and most of all...it scared me that Lionsgate will probably release a third entry into the series sometime in 2010.

If that happens....we should "ALL" be scared. Alas, the sweet memories of "Are You Scared", where a girl and ehr brother had to chose which one of them was gonna get a hole drilled right through their head, and the hot lead actress discovered her disfigured father was a psycho killer. So my advice to you? Rent "Are You Scared" Part 1, because Part 2 BLOWS!

Positives:Not a muthafuckin' thing!

Negatives:Bad acting, bad costume design, bad script, bad everything. Just BAD!

Overall:No stars out of four.
