Next up, "The Lost". This adaptation of the "Jack Ketchum" novel. Sure it was quite boring, at time unbelievable, and very cliche...but Marc Senter as Ray Pye gives an excellent performance, and if you can block out everything else and focus on that you'll grow to like this film in some fashion. This one was a tough choice for me because it came very close to making the "other" list. If not for Senter, it probably would've. We now go foreign with "Death Note", the movie with a huge cult following in Japan. I didn't find it as exciting as others did, but the movie certainly has a certain style and likeability factor many other films lack. The characters are cool, and the story is just unique enough to make this one worth seeing, and to allow it to make my "good" list. Back to the states with "The Strangers". When a young couple visit their cottage for a romantic weekend, three kooks dressed in scary garb quickly ruin their plans. Using flat out terror, suspense, and scares is a lost art in horror these days. "The Strangers" has rediscovered that art, and without relying too much on violence and gore, it just gives you big time thrills, chills, and butterflies for 90+ minutes and then sends you away wanting more. |
