[Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill!]
Plot:Remington, a murderous grifter cons his way into a mother's heart, putting on a fatherly facade to her cherished son, Nicholas. But the second she leaves for work, a torrid of abuse rains upon the gentle boy. Remington heads out for some hookers and invites his dilettante-child molester-drug-dealer buddy over to abuse Nicholas. In the meantime, the only comfort the boy gets is in confiding with his new pet bunny. Debauchery is at hand but Nicholas is nowhere to be found but someone wearing the mask of the beloved holiday hopper shows up ready to deliver a blood-splattered night of unspeakable carnage.

Cast:Timothy Muskatell, Ricardo Gray, Charlotte Marie, Trent Haaga, David Z. Stamp.

My Thoughts:Crazy...but it works!

Review:"Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill!" is the latest in indie-horror-genre exploitation horror. The film, due out to DVD this June, and directed by Chad Ferrin, follows a woman named Mindy (Marie), who has an autistic son named Nicholas (Gray). Mindy meets a new boyfriend named Remington (Muskatell), who is pretty much a prick, a jerk, all of those things. Although he puts on an innocent and loving mask for Mindy, Remington is a total sleazeball, and he's terrible to Mindy's son Nicholas.

When Mindy has to work a double shift at the hospital, the relationship between Remington and Nicholas gets taken to dangerous new heights. Throw in a serial murderer on the loose, dressed as the Easter Bunny, who just so happens to be Nicholases favorite holiday character, and things really get ugly. This movie works because it doesn't follow the rules. It doesn't follow conventional wisdom, or any kind of wisdom for that matter. The picture just takes a crazy storyline, and runs with it. It pushes the envelope, and doesn't really care who might or might not get offended.

The film utilizes cliches, obligatory and old school classic ones (such as the killers type of mask), but it also does some neat new things with it's story, and the most clever twist of all, comes at the very conclusion of the movie. The acting is pretty decent also, particularly by Muskatell as the evil slob Remington, Marie as Mindy, and Gray as Nicholas. Gray also appeared in another Chad Ferrin film, "Someone's Knocking At The Door", which hits DVD this month. He's becoming quite a decent niche actor, and it's nice to see two black leads in a horror film for once.

As for the movie itself, well, it keeps you guessing about what to expect, and really just goes for th gold as far as content is concerned. It's constantly topping itself as far as outrageousness is concerned, and as far as the humor is concerned as well. Although it chooses more class and twisted humor, over the gross out humor "Someone's Knocking At The Door" delivered. It doesn't go nearly as far as that movie did. But it still keeps it's brand of humor borderline gross and vile. But it doesn't cross the line like "Someone's Knocking" did.

The blood and gore in "EBKK" are also fully on display. The deaths are plenty, and plenty....bloody as well. We get hammer beatings, drills through the head, shotgun blasts, strangulations, etc. All of that good80's schlock stuff that is kind of missing from most of today's indie horror films. The pics budget is obviously quite low, something that the opening credits will foreshadow, but the movie still manages to work on what was spent to make it, and the low budget is masked mostly by solid directing, and some funny characters.

One thing Ferrin does really well is put the characters in their proper places. You hate the people and characters you're supposed to hate, and root and cheer for the ones you're suppoed to root, cheer for, and or like. Then in the midst of all of that, there's some cool twists which are thrown in for good measure, to give the film some padding around it's main players. Gore and exploitation fans will enjoy the movie for it's boldness.

Slasher fans will appreciate it's unabashedly violent streak, and genre fans overall, will just enjoy it's envelope-pushing attitude, and it's smart ending. "EBKK" is worth seeing if you're a fan of micro-budget indie horror, and are looking for something a tad bit new.

Positives:Good directing, well-done characters, very creative and ambitious story, good kills, and a terrific ending.

Negatives:The pedophile character was kind of borderline bad taste. Guy was stomach-turning to watch on screen

Overall:Three stars out of four.
