[Edges Of Darkness]
Plot:Involves three gripping horror tales involving the anti-christ, a killer computer, and a vampire..all set against the backdrop of an apparent apocalypse.

My Thoughts:Alot more interesting than the average indie fare.

Review:"Edges Of Darkness" is Jason Horton's indie horror film which is not really an anthology, but yet at the same time is an anthology. The movie doesn't do one story, and then segway into another. But rather putting a new spin on horror//anthology films, it tells all three stories involving the anti-christ, a vampire, and a killer computer all at the same time. All of them are wrapped into a fourth overall story where the undead walk and stalk the earth due to an apparent apocalypse.

Jumping back and forth between all three during the entire 80+ minute duration of the film. I must say, this movie really does some interesting and new things with not only horror anthologies in general, but with storytelling. The movie also boasts some good performances by up and coming actors, which not many indie horror films can say. Most indie horror movies usually have alot of weak-links when it comes to acting and performances, but this movie has alot stronger performances by most of it's cast.

The script is also very smartly written, and things unfold as the movie goes along. It's not a movie where alot is spelled out at the very beginning. For example, the three stories...one involves a couple trapped inside their home due to the zombies outside. While it may seem like the zombies are their problem, along with their seemingly collapsing marriage...there's something else sinister afoot inside the apartment with them. While another couple somewhere else in town has run out of food, and now resort to drinking blood as a source of nourishment.

They snatch a new victim to drink from, but there's more to this person than meets the eye. And then there's a punk-rock chick who has armed herself to the teeth during the zombie apocalypse, and has taken in a single mother and her son. But again, there's more to this scenario than it looks at first on the surface. Horton really put together a great script, and filmed the movie very well. This more than makes up for the low budget and sometimes choppy effects that are strewn throughout the movie.

The dialogue in the movie is also very crisp and funny in some spots. Including one scene where the female member of the marriage problem couple asks her husband what their neighbor was thinking when the zombies were ripping him apart, to which he responds with..."He probably was thinking, oh shit they just ripped my arms off." A pretty classic line when watched within the context of the movie. The cast is also very diverse, which is a big time plus and while in some movies may affect the flow of the pic, it actually works really well in this movie.

And adds a totally cool and different dimension to the film which alot of indie's lack. The blood and gore are also ever so present in the movie, and while there isn't gallons upon gallons of it, there's enough to satisfy the expectations of a person or persons who's watching a horror movie, and expects a certain amount of the red stuff in a genre flick. The ending it also really cool and humorous at the same time, and it's fun and suspenseful watching these three stories wrap up with exciting conclusions and sharp climaxes.

Lee Perkins is one of the actors in the film who has a small role but certainly makes the most of it and performs very well. As do pretty much all of the other actors. "Edges Of Darkness" is a new kind of indie horror film. It offers up excitement, new fresh storylines, and a certain dynamic not found in most of today's indie horror pictures. And as far as horror anthologies go, it certainly beats "Creepshow 3".

Positives:Great story and great directing, Good performances and a high entertainment value.

Negatives:The low budget hurts the movie in some areas, but not all.

Overall:Three out of four stars.
