[Hide]
Plot:A modern day Bonnie and Clyde - with a twist - that follows two lovers down a path of destruction, mayhem, and murder as they live in a world where it is acceptable to take whatever they want...with murderous consequences.

Cast:Rachel Miner, Christian Kane, Polly Shannon, Beth Grant, Alex Sarian.

My Thoughts:Not so good, not so much.

Review:"Hide" is the latest indie horror film to do a whole bunch of things. One, present a crazy, inter-connected, mixed up story. And two, boast Rachel Miner in it's cast. It seems she's becoming an indie scream queen in her own right. The film stars her as Betty and Christian Kane as Billy, two Bonnie and Clyde wannabe's, who exist in a reality where they can take, kill, and do whatever they want.

Or so it seems. The two soon find themselves being stalked by a psycho killer. A killer who loves to do the slasher thing. Slice, dice, torture, kill, kidnap, the usual. The question is though, who is the killer? And why are they after Betty and Billy? The interesting thing about this movie was that Christian Kane was in it. Kane's last genre effort when it comes to horror, was his stint on the now off television horror/drama "Angel", as Lindsey. Kane plays a pretty good smalltown/outlaw type.

Which didn't come as much of a surprise to me as the man is from Dallas Texas, so he had the whole act down pat. But Miner did just as good as he did as his pretty hot partner in crime, and I think she out-performed him a bit considering she's a New York girl. And to step outside of that box and play the smalltown outlaw/southern gun-toting type certainly requires some acting depth and range. The movie itself though is really performance driven, and Kane and Miner manage to uphold their end of the bargain.

Their respective ends anyways. But where the film hits a serious snag is, when everyone else can't hold up their ends. The writer, the director, ya know? Yeah, those guys. This movie isn't filmed all too well, and the script is droll, boring, and just drags on a lot. Not really allowing anything interesting, scary, or disturbing to happen. Kane and Miner are good actors, but at some point in a horror movie, we expect something horrific. This film doesn't deliver that.

Instead, it rides the mystery wave for 90 minutes. Teasing us with this mystery killer, and his mysterious ways. And nothing solid ever materializes which after awhile, gets tiresome when you're a viewer. I was really hoping for something big to go down at some point in this movie but the film never has that one big moment where it gives you something that you can say "wow" to, or be shocked at.

The movie never hits you with anything great, or even modestly exciting for that matter. I saw this on tv by the way, a few nights ago. Which was odd considering the film doesn't hit DVD officially until June. Usually, a film doesn't arrive on cable until it hits DVD. But this film's release has worked backwards with it's distribution for some reason.

At any rate, the films ending is as good as it gets. The ending tries to do everything the previous 80 minutes failed to do. It shocks, surprises, and ties to really wow you with the identity of the killer and the overall secret behind Billy and Betty's existence. But does it work? Not really.

Nor does this film. However, Kane and Miner give good enough performances to elevate the movie to a decent standard. As far as cinematic value is concerned. But if you're looking for heavy blood, gore, action, and entertainment from "Hide"? Then you're dreaming.

Positives:Kane and Miner give good performances. The ending is trippy in it's own way.

Negatives:A lack of action, suspense, or anything really entertaining prior to the final 10 minutes.

Overall:One and a half out of four stars.
