[Inside]
Plot:Involves a woman who after her boyfriend dies in a tragic car accident, is soon haunted by the spectre of a mysterious woman.

Cast:Béatrice Dalle, Alysson Paradis, Nathalie Roussel, Nicolas Duvauchelle, Emmanuel Lanzi, Ludovic Berthillot, Aymen Saïdi.

My Thoughts:Not much on the Inside.

Review:I am not exactly sure what this film was supposed to accomplish, but the French terror picture "Inside" (À l'intérieur) is not worth the hype. Which isn't a surprise, many foreign horror's which are hyped up really don't live up to said hype. The film follows a pregnant woman who survives a car accident, but isn't out of the woods yet as a crazed woman wielding a pair of large scissors shows up at her house, looking to take her out. However, the clever twist here is...she doesn't want the woman, as much as she wants the baby inside her womb.

Something tells me that this film was supposed to be a cinematic retelling of a twisted story from a few years back, where a woman from Kansas drove to Missouri to attempt the same sick act, the act of stealing a woman's baby right out of her womb. However, this movie simply comes off as more gore for gore's sake, instead of true, classic horror. First of all, there's really no explanation for this cuckoo for cocoa puffs woman. She shows up with evil intentions, but it's never revealed who she is, or why she is doing this.

Apparently there's supposed to be something cool about having random people show up in a horror film looking to attack the protagonist in the picture. The movie certainly isn't shy about piling on the blood, there are alot of blood squirting, spurting, and gushing in this picture. But again it just starts to feel like exploitation horror at some point, instead of an actual movie with an actual story that leads up to something. There is just absolutely no real plot to "Inside", and we basically get a dark, spooky victorian like French house for 15 minutes, and soem crazed woman pursuing the pregnant woman for the other hour and seven minutes.

While some people who are so desperate for a good horror movies these days may appreciate "Inside"'s penchant for blood-letting, and uber-violence, those of us who can appreciate just a little bit of a plot and depth in our horror films will quickly turn off to a movie like this. I know I did. While the horror elements were strong, they really aren't anything without atleast a few drops of story-related glue to hold all the horrific elements together. The body count is quite high, which isn't surprising considering the story really isn't developed at all, and there isn't even much dialogue beyond the films first 15 minutes. Lots of people get it in this movie, and they get it badly and violently at the hand of the mysterious woman.

However one has to wonder how many times this chick, who seems to move very methodically and slow, can continue to get the proverbial "drop"...on everyone who enters the house. Whether it be the cops, or otherwise. I guess that's just part of the charm of these particular films, that the killer no matter how flawed can just somehow manage to sneak up on anyone who might be able to help the victim. However, in the case of "Inside"....it seems very unlikely, no matter how realistic the director tries to make it. The films ending just exposes all of the movies flaws all over again, and is quite the unfair conclusion to things.

I was thinking, a film like this should conclude in a certain manner, but while I appreciate the twist ending, in the crux of things...it really looks and seems extremely unfair overall. "Inside" is really a movie for people who can appreciate over the top and plotless slashers which exist for the sole purpose of leap-frogging over the line of good taste. While it did have a few good scenes and an intriguing killer, there just wasn't enough of a foundation to build this movie up as anything other than an empty bloodbath.

Positives:Intriguing killer, some bloody demises.

Negatives:A lack of story, no background on the killer, a pretty crappy ending.

Overall:Disappointing.
