My Thoughts:"Lake Placid 3" doesn't exist, "Lake Placid 3" doesn't exist, "Lake Placid 3" doesn't exist...it works if you repeat it enough.
Review:So the guy from "Eureka", the lady from "Witchblade", and the girl from "Resident Evil 4" run into a crocodile...sounds like the beginning of a really bad joke right? Well it's not, or...scratch that...it's "Lake Placid 3", brought to you in horrible CGI by the SyFy channel, so technically, yeah, it is a really...bad, joke. As if the uber-retarded "Lake Placid 2" wasn't bad enough, they decided to crank out a third movie for some reason. Probably just to annoy me, story of my life.
Anyways, this time around...DO NOT FEED THE CROCODILES, has apparently not sunk into the tiny minds of the locals. This time though, trouble comes from outside the town of "Lake Placid", when a game warden (Ferguson), moves his family to the lake. His son discovers some baby crocs, and starts feeding them. The crocs then grow up (similar to the exact same storyline of the first sequel), and start eating people again.
Of course that plot has gotten stale by now (just like this series), so they also have thrown in USDA rejected meat, as a subplot in the film. And guess who's feeding the bad meat to the crocs? Yep, another Betty White wannabe. While "Lake Placid 2" was really bad, atleast it had some good kills. This one however, part 3....couldn't even do that right. The kills here are gory, but the way they're choreographed and thought out is so bad, you just can't help but hang your head and nod in shame.
Not really sure why they don't just come up with a real fx house to make these movies. "Ginger Snaps" wasn't a super expensive movie, yet, they managed to put together a really nice werewolf for the finale of the movie, and some of the scenes prior to that. But for some reason, SyFy chooses really bad cgi, over even the cheapest monster fx. I can't imagine an alligator is really that expensive to create, especially when you consider all the ways you can work the film to where it's not seen in it's full form too often.
I mean "Primeval" did it right? At any rate, I always don't expect much from films involving killer reptiles, because crocs and monster snakes can only do so much, considering one doesn't have hands or feet, and the other can't move upwardly mobile like the average human. So, it's gonna be all biting, devouring, and strangling. I can handle that, but having it all done in bad CGI...nope, cannot handle that. As for the acting, Yancy was decent, and even has a star moment where she battles a croc with a knife.
Who wins? You'll have to watch the movie like I did to find out....heh. As for Ferguson, I can't really judge his performance too much, because I don't watch "Eureka", so I am not sure if this is his first decent performance, or one in a long line of good acting jobs. Either way, he was viable as the game warden who was modestly brave for his age. But seriously, "Lake Placid 3" is a movie horror fans, and nature vs man film fans alike should avoid, unless you really love "Lake Placid", or you really love "SyFy Originals", or you really like bad CGI cheesy monster movies, or if it's all of the above.
And don't even get me started on the ending of this movie, which must have the makers of the original "Lake Placid" banging their heads on a desk somewhere in Hollywood right now. "Lake Placid 3" has a lot of things going against it, but hey....atleast it was better than the last 2 "Anaconda" movies Syfy cranked out.
Positives:Yancy Butler's singular heroic scene.
Negatives:Bad CGI for days, lazy script.
Overall:One star out of four.
