[Mirrors 2]
Plot:When MAX, a recovering addict, takes a job as a night time security guard job at his father's department store, he begins to see visions of a young woman in the store's mirrors. Unsure whether his visions are side effects of his prescription sleeping pills or actual reality, he begins to look deeper into the source of the images in the mirrors. When employees of the store turn up dead and Max is a suspect in the murders, he must expose the girl's connection to a scandal within the department store's walls in order to prove his innocence and put a stop to the spirits in the mirrors.

Cast: Nick Stahl, Emmanuelle Vaugier, William Katt, Lawrence Turner, Stephanie Honore, Christy Carlson Romano, Jon Michael Davis, Evan Jones, Wayne Pere, Lance E. Nichols, Ann McKenzie, Jennifer Sipes.

My Thoughts:I really miss "Mirrors" right now.

Review:"Mirrors" was a good film, directed by Alex Aja, and headed by a veteran cast that included Keifer Sutherland and Amy Smart. Paula Patton and Jason Flemyng as well. When I heard there'd be a sequel, I said to myself...eh, what could it hurt? Well, "Mirrors 2" hurt...BAD. The film follows a guy named Max (Stahl), who gets a job as a security guard at the infamous Mayflower department store. Soon, he begins to be haunted by visions in the mirrors, and a new "crack", of terror begins to spread. Problem with "Mirrors 2" is it's not as dark and sinister as part one was.

The formula wasn't boring, don't get me wrong. The formula of spirits using mirror-related technique to kill their victims, doesn't get old until atleast film 4. Well, my opinion. But the characters sure as heck got boring, really quick. Stahl wasn't very much of a joy to watch in this film, and I stand by my opinion that he's only good in villain roles. I mean "Sin City", "Disturbing Behavior"...good works. Decent in "T3", but terrible in "Mirrors 2". Now "Mirrors 2" does have that one big kill, that part one had. In the case of the first film it was Amy Smart ripping her own mouth off.

In "Mirrors 2"...it's the bathroom yet again, but the death is a tad bit different. Although bloody as hell nonetheless. Problem is, the movie fails to followup on said kill. It floats along aimlessly, having Max meet a girl (Vaugier), and then him and her trying to uncover what's agitating the evil reflections in the mirrors. Of course in part 1 it was Anna Eseker, a name not mentioned in part two. And when you think about it, it in all actuality should've been.

The first film led us to believe it was Eseker who was using the mirrors to terrorize people. And since she was apparently killed in part 1 via the explosion, should part two even exist? Who knows, but this movie strays from the demonic possession storyline, and goes into a more conventional reason as to why the mirrors reflections are killing people. And thus, the magic of "Mirrors"...is gone. The reason this series worked, was because it was not conventional. Part one sure as heck wasn't. But two goes out of it's way to be regular.

Bland, typical, the proverbial "prototype". How obligatory is it? Well, there's the obligatory hot girl with a sad story of tragic loss, there's the obligatory googly eyes that she and the films male lead (Stahl), make at one another when they first meet. And there's even the obligatory mirrors expert who traces the history of mirrors back to all kinds of spiritual/supernatural hijinx. Nice try with the creepy story, but Mrs. Blankenship did it better in "Halloween 6". "Mirrors 2" goes absolutely nowhere after it's main kill, and by the time it reaches the end, it's broken down into a chase-filled story of weirdo's, attempted rape, and the scourges of society.

A far less clever bit of writing when compared to it's predecessor. "Mirrors 2" isn't even as bloody as it's counterpart, which is a shame because you'd think a film like this would bring the blood, being that it's intrical screw is mirrors, which contain glass, sharp, demonically-possessed glass. Instead, it kind of tries to be "White Noise 2"ish.

Which doesn't work because "White Noise" didn't start off as a franchise as a bloodbath movie. "Mirrors" on the other hand did, and when you go from bloodbath, to dramatic soap-opera, with one decapitation, it never ends well. The films ending is just insulting, and I pray what I think is coming, doesn't come...ever! "Mirrors 2" is the obligatory sequel, that you might wanna take the librty of obligatorally avoiding.

Positives:The movies first kill is a great spectacle to watch. Very well done.

Negatives:Post-first kill, this movie implodes and never recovers. The acting is so gloomy and uninspiring, and the story is very weak.

Overall:One star out of four.
