[My Super Psycho Sweet 16 2]
Plot:Sequel to "My Super Psycho Sweet 16". Having fled the bloodbath at the Rollerdome in My Super Psycho Sweet 16, Skye goes in search of the mother who abandoned her as a baby, a woman she barely remembers. Her journey takes her to the quiet town of Mill Basin, where she finds her mother, Carolyn, now married to a wealthy real estate developer. Taken in by Carolyn and Skye's half-sister, Alex, Skye believes she's finally found a safe haven.
As the bond between Skye and Alex grows, Skye is introduced to Alex's manipulative best friend, Zoe, and her dream guy, wanna-be DJ, James (aka Jams). Despite Zoe's suspicions, Skye attempts to keep the truth about her father a secret, even from Alex. But Skye's past is about to catch up with her. Brigg is unable to forget Skye and convinces Derek to help him find her. And they're not the only ones on her trail. Charlie Rotter has followed Skye to Mill Basin, and the corpses are starting to pile up. When Alex throws a party on the same night as Skye's 16th birthday, her weekend rager becomes the terrifying setting for a Rotter family reunion and one killer party!

My Thoughts:Not as much fun as "MSPS16", but still decent.
Review:A year ago, came an MTV original horror movie called "My Super Psycho Sweet 16". The film followed a slasher/killer named Charlie Rotter, who went crazy a few years prior, and wasted a few annoying teenage brats. Then, returned to claim more...along with his daughter...on the 16th birthday of the most popular girl in school, Madison Penrose. Blood, guts, and chaos ensued...as Charlie picked off Madison's most obnoxious friends, and then set his sights on Madison herself. But his urge to reunite with his daughter Skye Rotter, eventually became his downfall.
And thus while he claimed Madison, he wasn't able to turn Skye to his evil ways. The film was a pretty entertaining slasher picture, and had some awesome death scenes too. Including one where a girl is decapitated as she's on skates. And what's left of her body crashlands onto Madison's birthday cake. So since the first film was so well received, of course there had to be a sequel. And thus now we have "My Super Psycho Sweet 16 2". This time round, Charlie Rotter was nowhere to be found after the rollerrink massacre part deux.
Nor was his daughter Skye. The twon meanwhile mourns the deaths of all of the kids Charlie murdered at Madison's party. Skye meanwhile, has fled to visit her estranged mother. Much to the dismay of her half-sister Alex (Prout). Who has her own set of friends, who ironically enough, are in some fashion similar to Madison's friends. Skye's mother welcomes her in with open arms, but her sister Alex takes her sweet time warming up to her newly-arrived half sister.
Meanwhile...Brigg (Angel), is still obsessed with Skye, and wants to find her. But it's easier said than done. But Charlie Rotter, SKye's dad...has found her. And won't let anyone stand in the way of his second reunion with his daughter. Which means, more obnoxious teens are gonna buy the farm in the process. The sequel is missing one thing the first film had. Outrageous characters. The Madison Penrose character was just a really huge exaggeration of the average rich, spoiled, teenage girl. And her friends were terrible people.
The sequel, has one character similar to all of those aforementioned characters. But she's obnoxious, mean, and controlling in a more punk rock kind of way. As opposed to Madison who was all of those things, in a more suburban, high-society kind of way. But beyond the films lead female antagonist, there's really not a ton of bad kids in this film. Which kind of makes it a bit sad when Rotter shows up and starts laying waste to people. Which takes place at a party near the end of the picture. I guess part two had to do something to distinguish itself away from part one.
And really most of what it does, is create a large sense of drama, loss, and despair. Skye is trying to cope with her new life, Charlie isn't happy he's lost his daughter again, and Alex, Skye's half-sister...isn't happy she's there living with her now. But the movie does seem to take itself somewhat too seriously. It really lays on the soap-opera-esque music and scenery in most cases, trying to make the audience feel as sorry for Skye as it can. While playing with the lovestory component, which is will Skye and Brigg ever reunite? And if so, under what circumstances? The film is actually more of a drag than the first one.
Which was more bright, fun, and took risks. The sequel is more reserved and operates and functions as more of an A-typical slasher movie sequel. It brings more elements to the table than the previous movie, but doesn't spread them around well enough. It gets trapped in sadness and despair too much. It doesn't bring any cheery characters to the table or any dark-humor scenes, which part one had many of.
I almost would call this the "Skye Rotter Story", as its tone and feel, fits the picture she leaves for Brigg at the end of part one. It's very dark, depressing, and woe-filled. The ending picks up the pace a bit however, as Rotter finds his new killing-grounds at the party, and during all the chaos, more secrets are revealed about the Rotter family, and some interesting twists occur. The biggest one coming at the end, which possibly sets up for a third movie. But overall, this is a sequel you really see just to know what has become of the survivors of part one.
It's not at all a terrific movie, like the first film. It's not fun, humorous, or as entertaining as the first film. It's a much darker version of that movie. More mature in some ways, but less fun in others.
Positives:Lauren McKnight gives a good performance again as Skye. Prout and Angel are okay as Alex and Brigg. Also the continuation element from the first film was much appreciated.
Negatives:The deaths are far less creative and cool as they were in part one. Rotter also doesn't dawn the costume that much in part two. The tone is too dark, and tries to take itself too seriously. The really crazy and outrageous type of characters, were also missing from this film sorely.
Overall:Two stars out of four.
