[Prom Night]
Plot:Donna's senior prom is supposed to be the best night of her life, one of magic, beauty, and love. Surrounded by her best friends, she should be safe from the horrors of her past. But when the night turns from magic to murder there is only one man who could be responsible…the man she thought was gone forever. Now, Donna and her friends must find a way to escape the sadistic rampage of an obsessed killer, and survive their Prom Night.

Cast:Brittany Snow, Jonathan Schaech, Brianne Davis, Jana Kramer, Hugh Scott, Kelly Blatz, Jessica Stroup, Idris Elba, Collins Pennie, Dana Davis, Scott Porter.

My Thoughts:He's only stalking her because she's hot.

Review:You would think that with such horrible remakes such as "The Eye", "One Missed Call", and others...that asian horror remakes are the only remakes that can stink. Well if you think that, then see "Prom Night" so you can eat a big plate of crow after admitting that you were wrong. Not only is this film an embarassment to remakes in general, but it's an embarassment to slasher movies as well. Which actually makes it twice as bad. The film follows a young girl named Donna (Brittany Snow), who years ago...watched her mom get slaughtered at the hands of her obsessive psycho teacher.

He got arrested, and now fast-forward to current events, Donna has moved on with her life now that she lives with her Aunt and Uncle. In fact, it's the night of her prom, and she's looking forward to having a good time during her last hoorah with her friends and her boyfriend. Of course the usual shit hits the fan when the psycho teacher played by Jonathan Schaech escapes the mental clinic and tries to hunt down Donna again because...well....he just thinks she's the hottest thing on two legs and he can't stop thinking about her.

Which pretty much is his motive for this sad, and pathetic (and I mean that) killing spree. He's simply so taken by the generic looking blondeness of Donna that he's willing to slash his way through some hotel staff, a few teens, and a cop to get some of "that". Totally deviating from the original "Prom Night" where the killer, even though insane as hell...had the honorable motive of killing for revenge purposes, revenge for a horrible prank gone wrong. This new "Prom Night" killer however just comes off as a creepy horndog who wants a piece of Donna more badly than most of the teens at the prom.

Even Donna's boyfriend in the film, even though he seemed to be in love with her, it was doubtful he would've went through this much trouble to score with her. Having the Prom at a hotel ballroom, rather than a school gym also proves to be a bad idea as it allows the killer to basically just wait for Donna's unsuspecting friends to get off the elevator upstairs before he takes them out one by one. And when there are none of Donna's friends around, he decides to off some underpaid hotel staff for no apparent reason, other than to etch his name in the history books I guess.

After all, his process of thought is "this will end two ways, I'll either be locked back up for life, or shot dead in a hail of gunfire...so might as well "dead" as many people as I can while I'm free for the time being. Gotta make those morning papers as the most prolific serial killer in town history after all". Speaking of which...the death scenes are very poor, and beyond the scene where Jessica Stroup's character getting caught somewhere where she shouldn't have been and winding up dead, the kill scenes in the movie are all cut-away/poorly executed with little to no blood.

Obviously the filmmakers were thinking of the 13 year old girls who would flock to the cinemas to see the film, so they cut down drastically on the red stuff. Once again, no concern for the hardcore horror fan. The chase scenes suck, mostly because there aren't very many of them. Dana Davis's character has one, and the sad thing is when it gets good...it's abruptly over. Schaech as the killer doesn't exactly do such a great job either, even though he is a good actor...I believe he was just bored in this movie and really felt silly trying to put his all into a film which would probably do more harm to his career than good.

Brittany Snow shows that she's developing into a good young talent, but is for the most part wasted in this movie. She spends most of her time not knowing what the hell is going on until 98% of the cast is dead, and the killer...who came there for her in the first place, decides to chase her around for awhile in act three. Which is confusing seeing as how she was his main goal for coming there. It kind of makes you wonder, why slash up a bunch of teens and some wayward hotel staff which in turn would make matters worse, instead of just snatching Donna while she was in the ladies room, knocking her out, and escaping in a stolen car?

I guess he never thought of that, nor did the cop (Idris Elba) pursuing the killer ever think that in his years on the force, that he'd ever be fooled by the old switcheroo trick. And never did I think that a movie about a serial killer on the loose at a prom, would include and exploit a pathetic subplot about two girls vying over prom queen to the point where it gives one a migraine (sarcasm). To makes matters even worse, the ending of this film is just as predictable as they come, and it also doubles as a cop out and a rushed climax. "Prom Night" is one of the worst remakes you'll ever see of an american horror picture...well...atleast in 2008. If there's ever a sequel, god help us.

Positives:One good death scene, Brittany Snow gives a good performance.

Negatives:Severe lack of blood and gore, lack of excitement or significant chase sequences, low entertainment value, pathetic killer, predictable ending.

Overall:Yikes....this one's a disaster.
