Horror movies &stuff Interviews "Night Claws" star Reb Brown!
HM&S.com recently caught up with veteran actor, and star of filmmaker David A. Pryor's upcoming killer-bigfoot film "Night Claws"...Reb Brown! "Night Claws", due out this October, has Brown playing the character of Sheriff Kelly. A local lawman who is placed into a particularly "hairy", situation when gruesome murders begin occuring in his jurisdiction. Will he be able to solve the case, and stop the rampaging bigfoot beast before it's too late? Or worse...before he's it's next victim?! "Night Claws" is set in a small town that is being terrorized by a killer Bigfoot. One that is blood thirsty, vicious and kills without warning and without discrimination. A scientist by the name of Sarah Evans (Leilani Sarelle) shows up to help the town's sheriff (Reb Brown) and his deputy girlfriend Roberta (Sherrie Rose) hunt this thing down and put an end to the killings.
At the same time, Hunter Crawford (David Campbell) is a thug-like character who along with his two henchmen, is hunting the creature himself, for his own personal gain and he does not care who he has to go through to accomplish this. Enter Charlie Parker (Ted Prior) a tough east coast type who is on a survivalist camping trip, led by the seasoned survivalist Sharon Farmer (Tara Sanford Kleinpeter) at the behest of his young trophy wife (Alissa Koenig) and whom, by no fault of his own, winds up being used as bait for the creature, by Hunter. But there is more at work here than meets the eye. A sinister plot is afoot and at its center is the vengeful Mister Testi (Frank Stallone). And in the end this plot takes a twist that no one will expect.
MR. H:Hey Reb! So tell us about your character Sheriff Kelly in "Night Claws"!
Reb:I am a small town Sheriff who encounters some hideous murders of a various unusual nature. Most police officers do not start their day like I did in "Night Claws". As time progresses and the body count increases, the case becomes more frustrating and complicated.
MR. H:Is this your first time playing an on-screen sheriff?
Reb:Yes. Although, I did go through the Sheriff's Academy in Los Angeles after college and had some experience in law enforcement. My Dad was LAPD for thirty years, and Grandpa was Marshall of Dodge City, Kansas!
MR. H:Do you find your experience as a professional boxer has helped you immensely in these movie roles where you have to do battle with horrible monsters?
Reb:Absolutely! They are all formidable combatants in a 'super' heavyweight class!
MR. H:"Night Claws" isn't your first on-screen encounter with a snarling beast. Way back in '85, you played Ben in "Howling II:Your Sister Is A Werewolf". How does battling a vicious bigfoot differ from battling an equally vicious werewolf? How is it similar?
Reb:In "Night Claws", I am pursuing the killer/killers to determine who, or what, the 'perp' is. I never have a direct confrontation with Bigfoot. I only see the horrible aftermath! In "Howling II: My Sister Is A Werewolf", I confront werewolves constantly. My only concern was that I would run out of my special bullets.
MR. H:Are you a believer in the bigfoot myth? Or is it all just nonsense in your honest opinion?
Reb:I believe there have been too many 'sightings' around the world to just dismiss it. Just be careful what might be out there in the woods!
MR. H:How many of your own stunts do you perform in this film?
Reb:I do all of them.
MR. H:How cool is it to go to work for a guy like David Prior, how has a sizeable amount of movies under his belt, and isn't totally new to this directing thing?
Reb:It was a wonderful. David was totally prepared everyday because of his experience. We did not waste any time because the shooting schedule was so well organized. He is very personable, professional, collaborative and an all around great guy. I look forward to working with him again.
MR. H:Do horror movies scare you as a viewer? Or are they more of an adrenaline rush to watch?
Reb:I never watch them late at night!
MR. H:What are some of your favorite killer bigfoot or creature movies?
Reb:"Night Claws", "Jaws", The 'Alien' trilogy, and "Predator."
MR. H:What horror films were you really digging growing up?
Reb:The old classics like "The Mummy", "Frankenstein", "Dracula," "The Thing", "The Wolfman" and
"Creature From The Black Lagoon". These were all favorites that my brothers and I watched on television.
MR. H:What does "Night Claws" in your opinion, have to offer horror fans who are looking for a good horror flick, and are tired of the same old, same old?
Reb:There are lots of plots twists, a good story with actual relationships, and bloodletting! I think you will be pleasantly surprised and enthusiastic.
MR. H:Where'd you guys shoot "Night Claws" and how long was your part of the shoot?
Reb:We shot in Mobile, Alabama. I had a wonderful time. I was on location for two weeks. The cast, crew and caterers were great.
MR. H:What qualities in the character Sheriff Kelly did you see in yourself?
Reb:We shared the same experience in law enforcement. Both of us worked with 'wooly' types --- my experience was with some of the creatures at the Los Angeles county jail! Both of us had the tenacity to follow all leads to solve the crimes. On a personal note, I am still married to my first, and only, love. Sheriff Kelly was 0-2, and working a number 3.
MR. H:Are there any other horror projects you have lined up in the near future?
Reb:Not at this time.
MR. H:Even though it was a long time ago, can you tell us what exactly you remember that happened with the movie "Sin Jin Smyth"? Where you were supposed to star alongside Roddy Piper and Jenna Jameson? The film remains one of the genre's biggest mysteries to this day as to why and how it just fell apart, literally.
Reb:This was a myth that I want to clear up. I was never connected to "Sin Jin Smyth"! Without my knowledge, they placed my name on the poster which infuriated me. It took a long time to correct the false information online. Please pass this information on!
MR. H:Thanks for the time Reb!!
Reb:My pleasure!!
End.
