My Thoughts:Uwe Boll does it again!
Review:Saying that Uwe Boll's "SEED" is awful would be an understatement. Boll has had his fair share of bad movies, "Bloodrayne"..."Alone In The Dark", but those films atleast had a certain charm to them. This one, is just flat out sickeningly awful. The film follows a psycho killer named SEED, who has been blazing a trail of terror for quite some time. That is, until the police catch him and decide to have him executed. While transporting his body however, SEED turns out not to be dead and escapes...leaving a lone cop to track him down and kill him. But SEED has other ideas.
The funny thing is, this film takes an entire hour and 19 minutes to get where it should've gotten in 20 minutes. Most of the film, beyond the opening scene which is absolutely stomach turning and grossly offensive, is spent with cop talk, and seeing SEED commit a murder (another sickening scene) which eventually leads to his capture. But what this movie doesn't do is anything positive really. It would seem to this viewer, that Uwe Boll has given up on making horror films, and is now in the business of shock horror.
I'm sure he was thinking...well, I can't tell a good story, so I'll throw in a few scenes of dog murdering in the beginning, and then later on a baby being thrown like a ragdoll on a bus. See where I'm going with this? Boll's last non-horror release was "Postal", and it's a film he stated would offend everyone. I think Uwe has decided to go in that direction now...just offend the hell out of people, and fuck all really. Well in my estimation, that's not the way to make a film. This movie had a bad story, and the killer looked like he was wearing a cheap Halloween costume.
Just some overalls with what seemed to be a sheet or 25 ply (if there is such a thing) toilet paper covering his head. Nothing terrifying about that at all. He doesn't talk, he doesn't do anything interesting, the guy reminds me of one of those "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" retards who just cripples people with his brute strength and moves on to doing the same with the next person. Really original, not. The movies story is just a non-factor, and it's amazing how such an interesting story, wasn't handled with care.
Think about it, a killer who survives the electric chair?? In the right hands it could've been gold, but in Boll's hand it's wasted big time. I think Uwe might wanna write stories and pass them off to someone else to direct. Or let someone else write and then direct himself. But letting him do both is just a bad idea. A story like this shouldn't have taken almost 90 minutes to get to the part where SEED returns from the depths of death. It's just ridiculous. On top of all of that, the acting was terrible and the sets were equally bad.
Nothing about this movie worked, and it might've gotten a better review from me if atleast the killer was a bad ass and bad ass looking, but he was neither. And Boll going all out with animal killing and baby abuse just to shock audiences was even sadder. I dunno, I think Uwe is losing it...seriously. Granted, I'm not gonna slam the guy for his films over and over again, I liked "Hosue Of The Dead" in a so bad it's good kinf of way, but "SEED" is just his most ultimate failure yet.
I can think of atleast one thing I liked about all of Uwe's past horror films. But with "SEED"....I cannot think of one thing I liked about it other than when the end credits rolled. The film was doomed from the start, and while I was able to swallow the dog murdering at the beginning with time...Boll never gave me anything else after that to atone for such a horrible opening scene, and for spending 80 minutes of my life watching this film.
Positives:Nothing, Nada, zip, zilch, not a damn thing.
Negatives:Everything, the whole sha-bang!
Overall:No stars out of four.
