Winstead, Edgerton Join "The Thing" Prequel!

The first two names have been announced for Matthijs Van Heijningen and Strike Entertainment's upcoming The Thing Prequel, which begins lensing March 15th in Toronto. According to THR Heat Vision, scream queen Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and actor Joel Edgerton, have become the first names to be added to the films cast. The prequel will follow an American scientific expedition to the frozen wastes of the Antarctic is interrupted by a group of seemingly mad Norwegians pursuing and shooting a dog. The helicopter pursuing the dog crashes leaving no explanation for the chase. During the night, the dog mutates and attacks other dogs in the cage and members of the team that investigate. The team soon realize that an alien life-form with the ability to take over bodies is on the loose and they don't know who may already have been taken over. |
Winstead will reportedly play a Ph.D. candidate who joins the aforementioned Norwegian research team in Antarctica after it discovers an alien ship in the ice. When a trapped organism is freed and begins a series of attacks, she is forced to team with a blue-collar mercenary helicopter pilot (Edgerton) to stop the rampage. Ronald D. Moore and Eric Heisserer wrote the prequel which is being produced by Marc Abraham and Eric Newman.
