TRUE BLOOD - Episode 7 Review:"Burning House Of Love"

Episode seven of "True Blood" is probably one of if not THE best episode so far. There are alot of turning points in this episode and the comedy finally hits it's stride. The big unresolved issues from the last three episodes has been who the killer is, the person responsible for the death of Jason's girlfriend as well as Sookie's grandmother. Not gonna give away whether or not that mystery is put to bed in Episode seven "Burning House Of Love", but it is expanded on somewhat.

Episode seven mainly focuses on three things...Sookie and Bill's off again on again relationship, the ever-growing drama between Tara and her mom Lettie Mae, and the brewing hostiltiy between many of the locals and the vampires. Side topics also covered in ep seven include Jason on the hunt for more "V", which leads to him meeting someone who can give him what he wants in more ways than one, and Tara and Sam's relationship getting weirder as if it weren't weird enough already with all the factors involved such as him being her boss at the bar and her jettisoning out of the room the last time they were together. But this episode really belongs to the characters of Tara and Lettie Mae, who steal the show and create some of the ep's best moments. In episode six if you recall, Lettie Mae warned Tara that her problem isn't all alcohol related, but also spiritually related. As in she is possessed by a demon. So after Tara visits her in ep seven, she tells Tara that she needs money or an exorcism...five-hundred bucks in fact. Tara of course doesn't buy any of this, and thinks it's just the liquor talking due to her mom being an angry drunk/fuctioning alcoholic. But Lettie Mae isn't willing to give up so easily...a point proven hilariously when she shows up at the bank and asks for a loan for an exorcism.

To which the man at the bank has a priceless discussion with Lettie Mae about why he can't give her a loan for such a thing. Lettie Mae of course doesn't respond well to the refusal, and being the type that loves to turn everything into a dramatic moment...she quickly springs into drama mode, throwing all sorts of accusations at the loan officer. One of the episodes funniest moments indeed, which gets even funnier when Tara arrives just in the nick of time to save her mother from making an even bigger fool of herself. Eventually however, Tara does decide to give in to her mother's demands ans scrapes together some cash to take her to a local exorcist so she can be freed of any evil spirits, after Tara smooths things over with Sam.

A decision which produces some unexpected results...for Lettie Mae, AND Tara. Jason meanwhile is still searching for more "V" after the little bit that Lafayette gave him has worn off. He returns to Lafayette for more "V", but Lafayette turns him down and things even get physical between the two before Jason is thrown out of Lafayette's house and has to get his "V" fix elsewhere.

The search for another "hit" leads him to the vamp club FANGTASIA, seen two episodes ago...where Jason meets an unexpected new friend (played by Lizzy Kaplan from Cloverfield), and the end result of this new relationship is Jason getting his "V" fix, but also getting another monkeywrench thrown into his already complicated love life. In fact if his love life got any more complicated in this show, you could start up a small militia with the leftover women. Sookie and Bill cross a line in their relationship in ep 7, a line which is crossed at the beginning of the episode, and revisited near the end when thre three vampire friends of Bill seen a few episodes ago visit the bar where Sookie works, and decide to make the official announcement that they're in town, and dare anyone to do anything about it.

Which of course leads to some of the bars patrons actually attempting to do something about it, only to be quickly smacked down by the vampires who get very close to Sookie just before Bill arrives to save her neck so to speak. However, after he rescues her a huge twist goes down between Bill and Sookie, which might change their relationship forever. And the rough and tumble incident at the bar has serious repercussions later on at the conclusion of the episode, leading to an event which again has serious implications for Sookie and Bill. High on drama, heavy on suspense, and drenched in sharp comedy..."Burning House Of Love" is one of "True Blood's" golden episodes.
