We're now at the final episode of season 3 of HBO's "True Blood". In 2 weeks, on September 12th...the third season will return with it's final episode. Not sure why such a long hiatus, but I assume it's for the Labor Day holiday? Or maybe they just wanna make the fans salivate more? Eh, whatever. At any rate, things concluded on an actually not so exciting note in last night's episode "Fresh Blood". Considering the events of the previous episode before that, "I Smell A Rat"..."Fresh Blood" was kind of, tame. The episode only has maybe two big moments. Tara confronting Andy about the "Eggs" revelation she got from Jason. And another big moment involving Tara, where she finds "comfort" in the arms of someone who's kind of like her, in his own way. Actually, the second big moment is kind of a rehash of the torrid affair from season's 1 and 2, but I guess every show needs an on again off again hook-up couple. |
As for Sookie, well...she manages to escape Eric's clutches, but not really. There was never any real possibility that Eric was going to hurt her, and we all know by now that he's just using her as part of his plan to kill Russell. But her escape ends up turning things between Russell and Eric on it's head. But Eric manages to cook up another plan to destroy Russell, a plan which we'll have to wait until the season finale to see whether it works or not. But the plan was very much telegraphed beforehand. I kind of saw the whole thing coming, as far as what Eric had planned to use to destroy Russell. Nonetheless, it was a clever plan, brought about by some clever writing.
Jessica fans meanwhile will be happy to know, that her and Hoyt seem to be on the path to reconciliation. A very strange, bizarre, and odd path...but a path nonetheless. But an intriguing bit of info left out, in the last episode, about the "small" woman Hoyt was dating, comes to light in "Fresh Blood". It seems her and Hoyt's getting together wasn't a matter of fate, but was rather orchestrated. And those who follow the Hoyt character and have followed him, ever since he first appeared on the show, should know right off the bat, who "orchestrated" the whole thing.
But the exciting thing is...the person responsible for meddling in Hoyt's love life, is not about to give up. And from the previews of the season finale, it's looking like Jessica might get deader than she already is. Sam meanwhile was on the warpath for most of "Fresh Blood". I was kind of thinking that maybe Sam would somehow become the old Sam, and become a possible villain in season 4. But it looks like Sam was just having a "whiskey" moment, and by the end of the episode, he had calmed down. But one wonders what the fall out will be from Sam's hissy fit. And "Fresh Blood" already shows a slice of the fall out, when Sam's place gets robbed by a person who he flipped out on during his tyraid earlier.

So as far as Sam is concerned, maybe angry Sam will return once he finds out all his money has been stolen. Then again, ya never know. As for Arlene and Terry, things get weird for them. Arlene goes through with Holly's wiccan ceremony, after the two get some free time on their hands once they quit working for Sam at Merlotte's, post his verbal rampage. Arlene, as most know by now, is carrying Renee's baby, and is afraid the child will be born evil like Renee was. So she's been conflicted for the last few episodes, whetehr or not to get rid of the baby. Thus, she consults Holly, who uses a ceremony to try and get rid of the child through what we'll call wicc-a-bortion. But she also warns Holly that the goddess that she prays to will ultimately decide if the baby should be born or not. And the ceremony won't 100% guaranteed, abort the child. |
And later on in the episode, we do find out the end result of the ceremony, and it's effects on Arlene. And the answer is quite a "messy" one. Which is then followed up by some bizarre news later on when Arlene and Terry are at the hospital. Jason meanwhile is still involved with Crystal, and she finally lets him in on what she is. But just as things seem to be getting interesting, and possibly positive for Jason and Crystal, it all goes south when Jason confronts the Bon Temps star QB about his use of V-blood as a performance enhancer, and when Crystal demands Jason return with her to Hot Shot to stop the police raid on her fathers shack.
Not sure where this thing with Jason is going, but I have a sneaking suspicion he could be walking into a trap with Crystal. Especially considering how loyal and not-very-bright she is when it comes to her family, and allowing them to abuse her. Lastly, Lafayette gets visited by some strange visitors, and this is another storyline I am not very sure of. The whole thing wih Lafyette holds some promise, but it's been introduced so late in the season, that I doubt anything significant can be done with it now. But the storyline does add another blotch of weirdness into an already weird show in "True Blood". So it's positive either way. Now, with the final episode 2 weeks away, some questions I have are...will we see Alcide in the final ep? Will a main character, or two, or three die? And how will it all end? We'll all find out together on 9/12!
