TRUE BLOOD Season 2 Episode 6: "Hard-Hearted Hannah" - Review

After Episode 5 wrapped up with a few shockers, episode 6..."Hard-Hearted Hannah", continues the shock and awe campaign of "True Blood". An interesting little note about this episode, is that it doesn't make us wait to learn who the new female vampire on the scene is. Her name is Lorena, and we soon find out that Eric called her to Texas, and that she is Bill's creator. Kind of ironic how we learn who Eric's maker is in the last episode, and in this episode we learn who Bill's maker was. Lorena, a pretty hot and steamy type of vampire, who saunters around like royalty pretty much. On top of all of that, we get the backstory behind Lorena and Bill's first encounter, and how and when she turned him. Eric continues his devious streak in the meantime.

And it seems that his designs on Sookie have gotten the better of him. Back in season 1, it was obvious Eric liked her to some degree. But now we can clearly see he is making a play for her with some very underhanded tactics. I have a theory on why Sookie is so important to Eric, and it doesn't revolve around love, lust, or anything emotionally-related such as is Bill and Sookie's relationship. I'll keep my theory a secret for now, but as the second season winds down, I'll spill it eventually, so stay tuned. In the meanwhile, Sookie decides to go through with the plan concoted in Episode 5, where she'd pose as being interested in joining the Sun Church, in an effort to track down Godric.
She takes a human with her to pose as her fiancee, thus forming one of those good, pure, christian couples to fool the Reverend. but things at the Sun Church retreat are getting..."hot"...no pun intended. Between Jason and the Rev's wife Sarah, and also in terms of their war against the vampires. Jason is tasked with helping to build a platform for a ceremony where the church plans to trot out a vampire, and watch him get destroyed by sunlight as the sun comes up. This vampire of course is Godric, who it is still yet to be revealed where he's being kept. But Sookie and the human who accompanied her to the church compound run into trouble in their rouse to try and fool the Reverend.
Where they end up at the conclusion of the episode might just finally lead us to our first Godric sighting since the flashbacks in Episode 5. Key word being "maybe". But I am hopeful. Jason as I stated above, continues to get closer with the Reverend's wife, and some big cracks are beginning to form within the power structure of the Church concerning Sarah's loyalty to her husband. We should expect this to somehow factor and play into the ultimate fate of Sookie, Godric, and Jason. But I personally am waiting for Jason to finally realize Sookie is there, and his reaction to the revelation. Will he quit the church? Or will he try and pull Sookie into it? And considering how Bill ends up at the end of this episode, maybe Sookie just might be subsceptible to a vampire-hating church should she happen to stumble upon Bill and Lorena.

The Maryann-Eggs-Tara triangle meanwhile continues to get weirder and weirder. When there's no hot water to shower with, Tara and Eggs drive off to retrieve a part which is needed to repair the hot water heater. During the drive, Eggs has a strange Deja-Vu moment, which leads him to a spot in the woods where he seems to think he's been before, but cannot remember when, or how. Tara is taken back by his vivid memory, and questions him about the memories. As this happens, Sam and Daphne continue to grow closer, but the most intriguing turn of events, which involves Sam and Daphne later on in the episode...finally gives us some clarity on the creature that attacked Sookie, Maryann, and her "powers".

So are things made any clearer on Maryann's identity, as in what she is? No. But we get yet another really bizarre peek into her powers to invoke lust within people, in one of this shows most shocking and jaw-dropping moments. Tara and Eggs return from their errand just in time to catch Maryann in action. But what happens after that leads me to believe that they probably won't remember what the hell happened in Episode 7. Or that Maryann was behind it all. Sam also gets dragged into the episodes strange twist ending, but taking a gander at episode 7's preview, it seems as if it'll be left up to him to stop Maryann.
But stop what? We still don't know what Maryann's ultimate plan is for the town of Bon Temps. Or whether or not she is truly evil, or just extremely mischievious. Bills creation Jessica doesn't get as much screentime in this episode as she has in the past few. But she does get a turning point of her own, when her "suitor" leaves Bon Temps, and comes to Texas to see her. Before this though, he breaks the news to his over-bearing mother that his new girlfriend is a vampire. Needless to say, she is not pleased.
Lafayette actually gets off easy in this episode compared to how everyone else ends up. Everyone else who's human that is. But he has his own issues to deal with when he gets an unexpected side-effect of drinking Eric's blood, and also gets an unexpected visit from Eric's sidekick Pam, who has a request, which is also a demand, of him. Lafayette refuses at first, but then realizes he has no choice after Pam lays it all out for him. All in all episode 6 certainly ranks as one of the more bizarre and eye-opening episodes of the second season. Episode 7 though is shaping up to be full of some key turning points, and it should be interesting to watch.
