TRUE BLOOD Season 3: "I Got A Right To Sing The Blues" - Review

The latest episode of HBO's "True Blood", "I Got A Right To Sing The Blues", creates a critical turning point for this season. Some major issues get resolved, while others, are given birth to. The biggest and most complicated being the seemingly endless saga of Bill's kidnapping. It seems that the writers are ready to wrap this story up, and not a moment too soon. Bill, at the end of the last episode, found himself in a bad situation when Sookie finally found him, but Russell Edgington, the Vampire King of Mississippi, found them. This episode once again creates another character who has an infatuation with Sookie. Or actually, what she really is.

Seems our blondie star-of-the-show may not be all-the-way human, which is hinted at in this episode. And whatever she is, and whatever powers she holds, Russell is very interested in them, and her. Sookie however, in typical fashion, isn't about to just roll over and let him have her. Even after a shocking betrayal by a vampire close to Bill makes her and Bill's situation even more perilous. But this betrayal fails to remain a shock once the trailer for next week's episode is played at the end of "Blues". But the betrayal seems to be opening up some very interesting new story arcs, involving Eric, the Vampire Queen of Bon Temps, and a few others.

Tara meanwhile, is all set to get married, whether she wants to or not. Mostly, it's the "or not" part. This ep marks a turning point for her character, as she's seemingly finally free of her unwanted groom-to-be, in quite a gruesome yet hilarious fashion. This sends Tara and Sookie on a run as they seek to escape Russell's estate. Not much Alcide in this episode, which really doesn't come as much of a surprise as everyone else has all sorts of stuff going on, and there really wasn't gonna be much room for any Alcide stuff. Besides, he's gonna be a series regular next season anyways, so I'm pretty sure he'll get some rich story arcs in season 4.

Alice does however have a brief cameo in this latest episode, in a pretty shocking moment also. Back in Bon Temps, things definitely seem to be getting more intriguing with the non-Bill-and-Sookie related stuff. Jason's new love Crystal, has a secret, but surprisingly enough, it's not a supernatural one. Or atleast, it doesn't seem to be a supernatural one, for now. It's gonna be interesting to see where this Jason and Crystal thing goes, as the storyline seems to be going more for a reality-based and dramatic play-out, instead of the usual off-the-wall stuff this show is well-known for.

We might have our first ever normal storyline of season 3. Between Jason and Crystal. I don't think it'll last very long though, considering there seems to be two storylines developing wuth Jason. Crystal, and of course the whole cop-in-training thing. Meanwhile Sam may have finally found out the big secret surrounding his new-found family. And again, this one seems to be going for a more dramatic and reality-based twist also. Just with a hitn of the usual "True Blood" weirdness, which is that Sam's little brother Tommy is a shifter, as we all know by now. But what's going on with him, his father, and the marks on Tommy, is looking like a more normal storyline that might end with a more normal conclusion.

Jessica meanwhile is still getting into trouble, although in this episode, she gets more good at using her vampire abilities, kind of making up for the last time where she failed, and a guy ended up dead. Which was at the very beginning of season 3. Lafayette meanwhile seems to have found himself a new love-interest in Jesus, the Mexican orderly from his mother's hospital. But a revelation about Lafayette seems to have already put this relationship in some early jeopardy. All of this doesn't compare to how this episode concludes though, which goes from dramatic and sweet, to quickly terrifying and shocking. I won't spoil it, but lets just say that in the next episode, a lot of things are gonna change. And I'm pretty sure the season is headed now, officially, into a more serious, dark, and perilous area.
