TRUE BLOOD Season 3: "It Hurts Me Too" - Review

So episode 3 of "True Blood"s third season, "It Hurts Me Too", is so far the least eventful episode thus far. It's not a really, really bad episode, but it packs less of a punch than the first episode did. In this ep, there's a lot more questions than answers. But also, episode 3 is not without it's usual morbid twists and turns. When last we left things, Sookie was under attack from a werewolf, with Eric standing in the way of her and an untimely death. Things take an interesting (and gruesome) turn though within that situation. Which leads us to our first Alcide sighting. Yes, the often talked about since season 2 werewolf, finally makes his debut into the series in episode 3.

Kudos to Alan Ball for not making us wait too long for Alcide to show up. His appearance is requested by Eric, to help Sookie in her quest to find Bill. But mostly, to keep Sookie from getting killed in the process of her search. Sookie however before she leaves, tries to set things straight with Tara in a pretty sugary-sweet scene involving Eggses burial. Looks like the Tara/Sookie feud might not be as big of a deal this season as atleast I had expected. But with Tara, you never can tell. Something else might go wrong for her and she could go on the warpath again.

But I kind of think with this new vampire coming into her life, she's got bigger problems than any dispute with Sookie. Speaking of the new vampire, he hits Jessica up for info on Bill and Sookie, oddly enough, we're still not sure what he wants with Bill. But I'm pretty sure it will be explained soon enough. Probably in flashbacks, which began last night where we flashed-back to more scenes of Bill and Lorena from the old days, and learned more about the complications of a vampire/human relationship. But we do find out what happened to that guy Jessica killed at the end of season 2.

It seems that Bill might be going evil or partially evil early on this season? Then again, Bill is pretty crafty, and these new alliances he's forming might just be part of a larger scheme, which probably revolves around keeping Sookie safe from both the King and his werewolf minions. But it will be interesting to see how Sookie reacts to all of this. Next episode, it seems Bill tries to use his new-found clout to dispose of an enemy, who not only poses a threat to him, but also his relationship with Sookie. But at the same time, Sookie might possibly be wavering on her feelings for Bill.

And as for Bill himself, well, he reunites with Lorena in one of the episodes most surprising and really twisted moments. The Bill/Eric/Sookie and now Lorena, love triangle is really getting hot and heavy, and while I am not sure how things will turn out in the end, it will probably result in an untimely demise for someone, or a few people/vampires. I can't see such a torrid series of events just being settled with tearful goodbyes and a few apologies and my-bads. I certainly think when this four-way affair is finally settled, there'll be some severe casualties.

Speaking of casualties, Bon Temps in ep 3 seems to be having a huge law enforcement problem, with Jason making a seemingly final decision on becoming a cop, and Bon Temps top cop deciding he's had enough of the job. As for Sam and Lafayette, things seem to be looking up for Lafayette, thanks to Eric bringing him a new toy to play with. But as we all know, when it comes to Eric, nothing comes without a price. And Sam has an embarassing moment with his new-found family at Merlotte's, but things get even weirder for him when his shape-shifting little brother breaks into the restaurant in the middle of the night, and makes off with some mysterious documents. Episode 3 kind of takes things slow, but ends on a note where episode 4, which airs July 11th (post July 4th hiatus), should return with the spice and flare that the first 2 episodes had.
