[War Wolves]
Plot:Jack Ford leads a special forces unit back to the United States to hunt down Jake Gabriel, a soldier who has been infected with the werewolf virus that turns man into wolf. Little does Jack know that three of the female soldiers serving in his unit have also been infected and have already transformed into she-wolves. The she-wolves forces of evil and Fords special op forces of good are pitted against each other in the race to save mankind from turning into wolves.

Cast:John Saxon, Tim Thomerson, Adrienne Barbeau.

My Thoughts:Kind of boring.

Review:"War Wolves" is a movie that tries to do something new with the werewolf subgenre. It chooses to make a film where people don't transform into werewolves, but instead become human/wolf hybrids. Pretty much human-looking, but with ugly faces and alot of fur. The movie follows a special forces leader named Jack Ford, who along with three female special forces comrades, heads to the states from the middle east to track down a rogue special forces soldier who's been infected with an experimental serum which has transformed him into a wolfman of sorts.

Upon his and his units arrival though. the rogue SF'er manages to infect the three women, turning them into she-wolves. Now Jack, who winds up infected as well, is left by himself, to battle the deadly foursome. Only aided by a few smalltown locals. Who ironically enough are as interesting as this film gets. The smalltown locals are played by three genre veterans. Adrienne Barbeau, John Saxon, and Tim Thomerson. Saxon and Thomerson plays friends in the movie, and their on-screen chemistry as well as character relationship is about as likeable as this movie gets.

Adrienne Barbeau's character is pretty cool as well, and she not only offers wods of wisdom to the character of Jack Ford, but also shares a few interesting stories as well. But when Barbeau, Thomerson, or Saxon aren't on screen, the movie just doesn't measure up. It lacks action, suspense, entertainment, or anything remotely interesting. The movie only becomes intriguing when the finale finally arrives, and there is a sort of...cool...fight between the two man-wolves and the locals battle the she-wolves.

But before all of this takes place, the movie never delivers anything good or packs a punch period. Which is not surprising considering it's a sci-fi original picture. But jeez, sci-fi usually dumps alot of CGI blood into a movie to atleast partially make up for the fact that everything else is not running like clockwork. But this time around, I guess they decided to change their minds.

One thing I can say that is positive about this film, which for that matter...is usually the only positive thing about most sci-fi channel originals, is that the women in the movie, specifically the ones who played the she-wolves were easy on the eyes. Well...when they didn't sprout those ugly wolf faces and claws that is. In a movie involving werewolves, or human/wolf hybrids, or whatever you wanna call em', you'd expect blood, guts, and gruesome kills. But not only did this movie not deliver on that, but it didn't deliver on a high body count either.

The film was pretty much filled with alot of jumping around, growling sound effects, and a subplot involving a romantic relationship between Jack Ford and the lead she-wolf. One which became very annoying very quickly. "War Wolves" doesn't live up to it's title, the film doesn't boast wolves...but rather pups. If this is as scary as human-wolf creatures get, then The Wolfman must be turning over in his cave.

Positives:Good looking she-wolves. A decent final battle between the good and bad guys. Adrienne Barbeau, John Saxon, and Tim Thomerson all had good scenes in the film.

Negatives:Hardly any real action, a low body count, no real blood, gore, carnage, or mayhem. Far too tame for a werewolf-esque film.

Overall:One out of four stars.
