My Thoughts:Modest followup to "Decoys".
Review:What can one really do with a movie that's a followup to a film that was basically "Species" meets "American Pie"? A film that was chocked-full of hot babes, and grotesque looking aliens?? How about stuffing the sequel full of even hotter babes and more grotesque looking aliens? Which is exactly what "Decoys 2:The Second Seduction" does, and to it's credit....does it quite well I might add. One of the first positive things of note about this movie is it returns the first films survivor Luke (Corey Sevier), who last we left him...was in the grips of one of the alien babes at the end of the first "Decoys". However the huge mystery here is, how is he still alive after all of the other victims who mated with the alien females froze to death and died?? Luke is now working as an assistant to his college professor played by Tobin Bell, and to deal with the flashbacks of killer alien hotties he's constantly having, he's also seeing a shrink, played by one Dina Meyer. Kim Poirier also returns as Constance, one of the last decoys to be killed off at the end of part one......or so we thought. There's an eventual explanation as to how she can still be alive here in this film which comes at the end of the picture. The alien babes are up to their same old tricks, finding horny college guys to mate with so they can reproduce and along the way, as with part one...they rack up quite a body count of frozen corpses. But this time the babes are hotter, and have some new tricks to use to get the job done, such as the ability to read their victims mind and morph into his ultimate sexual fantasy. It's obvious this time that after a tiny bit of success in the first movie, they've come much more prepared for their mission this second time around. The thing to like about "Decoys 2" is it knows exactly what it is, and doesn't try to go above that. Miguel Tejada Flores who penned the script, kept the movie in a sex-com/sci-fi/horror zone and didn't try to up the antie in the sequel by making it some sort of serious alien invasion flick ala "Species". The big difference in "Decoys 2", when compared to "Decoys" is that there are alot more subplots at work here than there was in the first one, and "Decoys 2" is also much tighter written so as to avoid plotholes, which part one had alot of. In this movie, Luke is certain that Constance is lurking about the campus and that the decoys are back. Meanwhile Tyler Johnston takes over the main character/lead male reigns this time around as Sam, a guy who's totally oblivious to the fact that his best friend Stephanie (Kailin See) is in love with him, despite his friends numerous attempts to wake him up to that fact. Meanwhile, his friends themselves are conducting a contest which involves scoring with campus ladies..all of this is going on while Constance roams campus trying to successfully keep Luke out of her and the others way so they can complete their mission. Despite all of these things going on, the film manages to keep itself afloat with quirky characters, and by being careful to avoid losing any of the many subplots along the way. "Decoys 2" also hits the nail on the head with it's comedic attempts, including a hilarious turn of events which lands Luke into a psych ward after his ramblings of alien babes with tentacles bursting from their chests draws the ire of his shrink Alana Geisner. While "Decoys 2" does improve itself in the acting department (mostly due to the additions of Bell and Meyer), over the first entry, it does become repetitive in a few areas. I can only watch hot girls easily seduce clueless hormone driven college guys only to freeze them to death soon after so many times. It gets old after awhile. Also it's never explained what happened to Luke at the end of part 1. Yes he's still alive, but were the alien spores ever implanted within him? Would he ever end up spitting them out left and right like his friend Roger from "Decoys" did? This for some reason is left hanging even as the film concludes which is quite annoying considering this is a sequel, and the object of a sequel is to answer all of the important questions left at the end of the previous movie. "Decoys 2" shines in act three however, as what remains of the group of college kids have a showdown with the last of the alien babes inside the local hospital, and in typical "Decoys" fashion, the film ends on a big "?????" note...suggesting that a "Decoys 3" might be in the works soon. "Decoys 2" despite it's repetitiveness in a few areas, does offer up some solid entertainment, good looking girls, decent comedy, and decent performances. And in a film like this, that's about as much as you can ask for.
Positives:Mostly good performances by the cast, modest entertainment value. Eye Candy galore, and a solid final act.
Negatives:It does become repetitive at some points, also again....is Luke inhabited by aliens or not? A question that should've been answered but never was.
Overall:Worth a view, especially if you were a fan of the first picture.
