My Thoughts:Facespace doesn't kill people, people kill people!

Review:"iMurders" is the latest movie to blend horror elements with the steamy, sexually-charged thriller elements of some of those old 90's movies which went straight to DVD and video, and were never seen or heard of by many. The film has a talented cast of veteran actors. William Forsythe and Tony Todd just to name a few. But the movie looks ridiculous because it's story is played out by people who are simply old enough to know better. The movie starts off with a cheating husband getting busted by an unidentified woman.

During the arguement, he ends up getting shot dead. We then skip forward to current times, where a group of bored-with-their-lives adults are playing chatroom games with one another, on a social networking site called Facespace (a blend of Facebook and Myspace, how clever!). At any rate, when one of them, the self-proclaimed leader of the chat group, comes up with a new game to play, which involves naming horror movie titles, it isn't long before bodies start piling up, with the inventor of the game ironically enough being the first to go.

But the movie, titled "iMurders"...really doesn't deliver much murdering or anything else beyond dark scenes, some twisted imagery, and the usual by-the-numbers murder/horror/mystery. Which is a shame because it seemed that the films script never lived up to it's cast. And as far as the "game" is concerned, it just didn't seem believeable that people in their late 40's and mid 30's would be playing an online game akin to that of something people 28 and under would be roped into playing. Horror films have one golden rule nine times out of ten. The young people are idiots, the older people aren't.

Why? Because it boils down to society's whole "old enough to know better" mantra. It's also why teens decide to break into haunted houses and smoke pot and hang out, whereas the older adults are the ones warning them not to partake in such foolishness. In this movie, not only are the adults really immature, and not quite bright...but when the leader of the chat game disappears, they seem to just yawn and pay it no mind. Despite the fact that when he supposedly returns, which turns out to be someone else typing under his screenname, the mystery person delivers an ominous message to the chat-roomies stating that their chatroom leader is in hell.

Of course these people are too concerned with the game, and being all flirty with one another, so they ignore the message of course, and the film drones on. While the viewer scratches his or her head at such nonchalantness. The film does show some promise in a few areas, which flashes the possibility of being able to tie in a few characters with the opening scene murderer and the opening scene murder victim. But those signs of life are quickly stamped out once we learn that the most interesting character in the movie is actually an undercover FBI agent, and that's when this hotair balloon loses what's left of it's air, and quickly smashes into the nearest mountain.

The characters in this film are pretty comical and diverse though, while others are cliche and sleazy. Forsythe's character for example is the typical college professor having an affair behind his wifes back, while Todd plays an FBI guy who seems bored with his job, and really not as much interested in tracking down the killer, as he is in visually intimidating potential suspects and or victims into spilling the beans on what they know, and when they knew it.

The women in the film are a diverse bunch, which includes the good girl next door, and the creepy middle-aged woman who may be up to more than she lets on. Then of course there's the slutty girl (Forsythe's characters fling), and the female FBI agent who looks like she should be in a teen slasher movie somewhere instead of grilling 40 year olds with no life on who killed who.

The films ending is pretty typical with the usual flashbacks which piece together the killers identity, and the obligatory frame job complete with typed out note stating:"I am the killer"...etc, etc. This movie tries, I'll give it that. But the script is so by the book and typical that it was doomed the moment it set sail. "iMurders" is a film for people who like their horror/mystery/thrillers predictable, and straight to the point.

Positives:Some of the characters were funny in their own way.

Negatives:Too predictable from a story point of view, hardly any kills except for enough to count on one hand, no big time blood or gore, and a very cliche finale.

Overall:One star out of four.
