My Thoughts:Dear...god.
Review:Where oh where to start with "Mummy Maniac"? This is the first film EVER, not in a long time or a long while...EVER, where I just could not find a single redeeming quality in it beyond a charming young lady at the beginning with a great Italian accent. This film is about a man who has some serious "Mommy Issues". Think Norman Bates in "Psycho", only this guys mom is alive and he's alot more weightier than Norman was. This man dresses up in a police man's uniform and kidnaps decent looking New York women by tossing them into the back of a truck and taking them to an undisclosed location where he threatens then with weapons and taunts them before wrapping their faces in bandages (this is where the Mummy in the title comes in), and then killing them.
And you know what folks? THAT'S IT! That's the whole movie! Nothing but flashback scenes to this man's mother bad-mouthing him, and then kidnapping after kidnapping after kidnapping. The worst part of it all is there really isn't even a point to the film, and none of the women survive their encounters with this guy. I'm thinking writer/director Max Nikoff could've atleast given us a happy ending if he's gonna put out a film this bad. But no, all of the women bite the dust, after endless pleading for their lives nonetheless. Which comes to no avail. It's amazing that films like this get made, but I imagine Nikoff financed this film himself and only a miracle from heaven could get Lions Gate to release this drivvel to DVD.
Which obviously is exactly what took place seeing as how Lions Gate was behind releasing this film. Why? I dunno, maybe he's the son or stepson of the CEO or something. All I know is, after seeing this movie I wouldn't release it anywhere, not even into a small arthouse. There are supernatural beings in the bowels of hell who shouldn't be subjected to such torture as sitting through the 1 hour and 20 minute disaster that was "Mummy Maniac". I was hoping at the middle that the film would stop and a real mummy would show up and then it'd be this whole big thing where I was being PUNK'D and the "real film" would then start up. However, I had no such luck.
I should also mention that there's a really shoddily put together subplot where the cops are pursuing this goofball and they accidentally arrest the wrong guy. As if a viewer with even one single functioning brain cell is supposed to believe this guy is some kind of criminal genius. Films like this embarass the genre, and although I've seen some horror films prior to this one where I've said that I wanted the 90 or 95 minutes of my life back that I lost watching, I now know what it truly feels like to want that time back. This film is ROCK BOTTOM, the lowest of the low.
So to sum it all up, if you know someone in your life that you really despise, you might wanna rent "Mummy Maniac", tie that person to a chair, and force them to watch this movie on loop. I guarantee you that'll straighten them out. Either that or make their eyes explode. Whichever comes first.
Positives:The closing credits.
Negatives:Everything beyond the decent looking women.
Overall:Worst horror movie ever! Seriously, I think I've found it, everyone says this one way or another about a film they've seen but I personally, strongly believe that I have found the ever so elusive...WORST HORROR MOVIE EVER!
