My Thoughts:Better than "White Noise".

Review:I wasn't too sure what I'd get out of "White Noise 2", after seeing "White Noise" two years ago...I had no hope for anything that was following up that snoozefest. But "White Noise 2" was a solid sequel, and one of the few sequels that beats out the original. The movie follows a man named Abe Dale (Nathan Fillion) who witnesses a madman gun down his wife and son while they're at a restaurant. The man then takes his own life, and Abe is left to put the pieces back together after the tragedy which claimed his family. But shortly after the incident, Abe notices that something is different. For one, he notices glowing oras of white light surrounding certain people, and he cannot seem to figure out why.

But once one of the people dies, Abe soon realizes that this new found ability means he can see who is meant to die, and thus he feels called upon to save them from their gruesome fates. It isn't long however before he learns that these heroic actions also come with consequences. "White Noise 2" does an excellent job of sticking with the original films tone, feel, and story yet at the same time branches off into an interesting and very intriguing direction of it's own. Nathan Fillion does an excellent job as Abe Dale, a likeable yet due to the recent tragedy..troubled man who takes his new found abilities as a calling of sorts to save people. It isn't clear whether Abe does this because he's just an honorable guy, or because he's carrying around alot of guilt over not being able to save his wife and son.

While he's discovering more and more about his power, which later on turns out to be a curse, he also continues to try and piece together the motive of the mystery man who murdered his wife and son and how it connects to Abe and his now deceased family. Either way, it's an interesting thesis to ponder throughout the movie. "White Noise 2" offers up alot of things the original film didn't. A solid story minus any severe plotholes, interesting characters, and a moderate amount of entertainment value. There's alot of flashy editing and jump cuts in this film mixed with sound effects to give a creepy and eerie feel to what's happening in the picture, which works considering the situation at hand. But also because the sequel posesses a very accurate score to go along with the trippy visual fx.

"White Noise 2" also posesses alot of disturbing and unsettling aspects to it's overall makeup. Such as the balance of life and death and how it simply cannot be toyed or meddled with. Although this was originally put forth in the "Final Destination" series, this movie does an excellent job of putting it's own spin on that very topic yet at the same time adding a new twist or two to how it plays out. The supporting cast is filled out quite nicely by Katee Sackhoff (Halloween Resurrection) who plays Sherry Clarke, a woman who acts as Abe's nurse but who he soon discovers is also in need of rescuing from the grip of death. Sackhoff's character plays an extremely important role in the film and ties in to the shocking and intense climax as well. But to make matters better she's far more likeable in this movie than she was in "Halloween Resurrection".

Adrian Holmes, another member of the supporting cast plays Abe's best friend/co-worker Marty who tries to act as a support system to Abe during his rough patch after the shooting. While the supporting cast isn't very large in number, Holmes and Sackhoff's performances are very noteworthy which kind of makes you forget about all of that. Like it's predecessor, "White Noise 2" doesn't delve much into becoming a splatterfest or gorefest but it relies more on scares, trippy imagery, and a strong story to hook the viewer. The movie, written by Matt Venne also adds some key surprises along the way such as a secret about the shooter of Abe's wife, the revelation of the darkside to Abe's powers, and the fates of those who he manages to save. "White Noise 2" is a great followup to the original and in fact I'd recommend seeing it over the original "White Noise" any day of the week. It's a great supernatural horror/thriller which shows how the supernatural horror/thriller should be done.

Positives:Good performance by Fillion, Sackhoff, and Holmes. Good story, creepy visuals, eerie score, and some great twists.

Negatives:A mildly unfair ending in regards to Fillion's character.

Overall:Solid sequel.
